Vintage & Refurbished Watches
Are AShirke watches new or vintage?
AShirke Watches offers a curated collection of vintage, antique, restored and refurbished timepieces, along with automatic and classic watches. Because many of our watches are vintage, individual pieces may have characteristics associated with their age and history.
Are the watches refurbished?
Many watches in our collection are refurbished or restored. The condition of each watch is specified on its individual product page. For example, our HMT Janata listings identify the condition as refurbished.
Is this an original vintage watch?
Yes. Our vintage watches are genuine vintage timepieces that are professionally inspected and restored by experienced watchmakers while preserving their original character and heritage.
Will my vintage watch have signs of age?
Vintage watches can have minor cosmetic variations and signs of age. These characteristics are part of the nature of vintage timepieces and may vary from one watch to another. Every watch is inspected before dispatch.
Are the watches authentic?
AShirke Watches states that its collection features authentic mechanisms. Product-specific information, including brand, model, movement and condition, is provided on individual product pages.
Has this watch been serviced or restored?
Yes. Each vintage watch is carefully inspected, cleaned and professionally restored as applicable to ensure reliable operation while maintaining its vintage appeal and character.
Can a vintage watch look slightly different from the photos?
Yes. Vintage and refurbished watches may have individual characteristics, including minor cosmetic variations or signs of age. These can vary between individual pieces.
Mechanical & Automatic Watches
Do mechanical watches require a battery?
No. A traditional mechanical hand-winding watch does not require a battery. It operates entirely through its mechanical movement.
What is a hand-winding watch?
A hand-winding watch is powered by a mechanical mainspring. You wind the watch using its crown to store energy that powers the movement.
How do I wind this HMT watch?
Turn the crown clockwise approximately 15–20 turns each day until slight resistance is felt. Avoid excessive force and never force the crown if it becomes difficult to turn.
How long does the watch run after winding?
A fully wound mechanical watch typically runs for approximately 30–40 hours, depending on the movement and its condition.
What is an automatic watch?
An automatic watch is a mechanical watch that winds itself through the movement of the wearer's wrist. Some watches in our collection use automatic movements.
Does this watch require a battery?
No. This watch uses a traditional mechanical hand-winding movement and operates entirely without a battery.
What does "17 Jewels" mean?
"17 Jewels" refers to jewel bearings used within a mechanical movement to reduce friction between moving components. Several HMT watches in our collection feature 17-jewel mechanical movements.
What is a 17-jewel movement?
A 17-jewel movement contains synthetic ruby jewel bearings that reduce friction between moving parts. These jewel bearings help support the movement's durability and reliable operation.
What is 21 Jewels?
"21 Jewels" refers to the number of jewel bearings used in a mechanical watch movement. It is not a watch brand. Jewel bearings are used at various points in the movement to reduce friction and wear.
What is Para Shock technology?
Para Shock is a shock-protection system used in many vintage HMT watches. It is designed to help protect the balance staff from impacts and improve the durability of the movement.
Daily Wear & Collecting
Is this watch suitable for daily wear?
Yes. With proper care and regular winding, vintage mechanical watches can be worn daily and enjoyed for many years. However, because vintage watches can vary in age, condition and water resistance, reasonable care should always be taken.
Is this watch suitable for collectors?
Absolutely. Vintage mechanical watches can be attractive to collectors because of their craftsmanship, history, heritage and individual character. Collector interest may vary depending on the brand, model, rarity, condition and originality of a particular watch.
Can this watch be gifted?
Yes. A vintage mechanical watch can make a thoughtful and memorable gift for birthdays, anniversaries, friends, family members and watch enthusiasts.
